Our Camelback hiking tour starts at J.W Marriott Camelback Inn. This resort is 1.2 miles from the Echo Canyon Camelback trailhead and serves as a great warm up for the challenge ahead. (This adds 2.4 miles onto the 3 mile out-and-back hiking trail)
Camelback Mountain hiking tours are rated “Double Black Diamond” – which means, with a steep 1.1-mile climb to the summit, expert hikers consider this challenge “extremely difficult” and certainly not for everyone. Hikers have died from falls on Camelback, and anyone with a fear of heights should avoid the sheer cliff drops off the side of the summit, and steep drop-offs.
There are Wild Bunch guests physically unable or too young to handle the challenge of a Camelback Mountain hike. We do not allow children under 10 years old on this hike.
This trail starts with a steep switchback section that gains elevation swiftly, followed by a treacherous stairway leading you to 2 steep slippery areas that require the use of a hand rail to ascend. If you reach this point you will continue onto 4 bouldering scenarios which requires you to use scrambling skills. Moving past these physically demanding stretches you will feel exhilarated upon reaching the summit. The tour will end after 4 hours regardless of which part of the trail you manage to reach.
If someone in your private group needs to turn around at any point, our guide will make sure they are supplied with food and water, ensuring there are no medical issues, and they will be required to wait at that spot while the rest of the group continues. THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO ASCEND ALONE.
Completing the Wild Bunch’s Camelback hiking challenge is incredibly satisfying.
Please do not be offended if we suggest another of our adventure tours for you. Echo Canyon is not for everyone! The Wild Bunch always puts the safety and happiness of our guests foremost in our minds.
