Louisiana Plantation Tour - 4hrs

General Itinerary
A private tour with WeVenture New Orleans is always a completely custom itinerary, created just for you and your group! A private tour of New Orleans can be from 4 hours - 8 hours, depending on the destination. Pick-up and drop-off locations are the group’s choice. While many visitors to New Orleans have specific sites they would like to see, many are happy to let our team create a custom itinerary that fits their interests, budget, mobility, and timeline. Typically, tours spend most of their time in and around the city, but we welcome any ideas for your dream tour.

No two groups are alike and we will plan a trip tailored to your group's interests, budget, and needs. Below are some sample itineraries to use as inspiration for your perfect tour:

Half-Day Tour :
Leave the city limits for a learning experience you’ll never forget: your local guide will take care of the driving as you visit Louisiana’s historic plantations, explore their antebellum mansions, and immerse yourself in the lives of enslaved people in the pre-Civil War South.

With a half-day option (4-6 hours), we’ll be able to maximize our time at one plantation based on your group’s interests, as well as a stop at an authentic Cajun or Creole restaurant where you’ll get a taste of history and enjoy local, seasonal ingredients.

The plantation we visit may have an especially deep connection to to the stories of enslaved people working the farms, with hands-on craft demonstrations and exhibits that will help understand what daily life was like on the plantation. Movie buffs may recognize some of these estates from films like Django Unchained and 12 Years A Slave.

Full-Day Tour :
A full-day experience (6-8 hours) opens up the possibility to visit more than one plantation, with stops in between to enjoy a meal or a quick snack for the drive.

You can take in both the beauty and rich history of a family-owned sugar cane plantation along the Mississippi River. Here, you’ll hear about the influence of immigrants on the countryside and its extensive gardens, meticulously maintained by enslaved African Americans.

History can also be viewed through architecture at the various plantations we visit, from French Creole–raised houses to slave cabins that have been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Whether it’s an oak-lined allée of a grand estate or a more humble property of a lesser-known plantation, you’ll come away from this experience with a deep appreciation of Louisiana culture and history as well as the stories, contributions, and challenges of those displaced by the Louisiana Slave Trade.
