Summary

Join us as we explore Jazz’s history, art, and architecture within New Orleans’ Armstrong Park. Located in the Treme neighborhood, Armstrong Park is named after one of the most famous jazz musicians in the world and one of New Orleans’ most beloved sons: Louis Armstrong. Starting underneath the park’s famed lighted arched entrance, we’ll explore the area originally known as Congo Square - one of the first locations in the city where enslaved people and free people of color were allowed to gather and socialize. You’ll hear about jazz’s origins, resulting from a rich mix of cultures in a single city, which combined West African and Caribbean sounds with European musical influences - giving us this uniquely American artform. There’s always a chance of hearing some live jazz from one of New Orleans’ street performers or local musical groups as your guide leads you through the park, so keep your fingers crossed! Whatever your musical interests, you’ll end this tour with a new appreciation for American music, New Orleans’ famous residents, and the art and sounds of jazz.
